Graduation speeches are usually full of cheers, applause, and inspirational quotes. But one speaker at the University of Central Florida got a very different reaction.
Her name is Gloria Caulfield and she was speaking to graduates last Friday when she called A.I. “the next Industrial Revolution.” And the entire crowd started booing.
The reaction clearly caught Gloria off guard. She looked behind her and asked, “What happened?” Then she smiled and said, “I struck a chord. May I finish?”
But things got even more awkward when she continued to get boos. At one point, she looked flustered and said, “I see we have a bipolar topic here.” (I bet she meant to say “polarizing” instead, but it’s tough without A.I. to proofread.)
Someone in the comments mentioned that she did this in front of the College of Arts & Humanities and College of Communication. So maybe read the room, Gloria?
