What is going on with this heat wave? Did you feel it this weekend? In some parts of the country, it was record-breaking. In other parts, it was just annoying.
Some cities in California and Arizona are already seeing highs over 100 degrees, which is about 30 degrees hotter than usual for this time of year.
One small community near Martinez Lake, Arizona, just made history, hitting 110 degrees last week. That was the hottest March temperature ever recorded in the U.S, at least until the following day when areas of California and Arizona hit 112. Normally, that kind of heat doesn’t show up until late May.
And here’s some more fun news to add on: There’s also a high-pressure system building in the U.S. right now, it’s what forecasters call a “heat dome.”
Which means the heat is expected to stick around a bit.
