Online dating was bad enough before, and finding ways to bring A.I. into the mix seems to be making it worse.
Tinder is rolling out a new A.I. feature called “Camera Roll Scan,” which asks users for access to their FULL PHOTO LIBRARY. Then, it uses A.I. to analyze your images and generate “Photo Insights.”
These “insights” summarize your personality, interests, and lifestyle, while also suggesting which pictures of you might attract the most matches. (Let’s assume you don’t have any naughty photos in there. Attractive as they may be.)
Basically, it’s like having an algorithm act as your personal dating coach. That’s par for the course these days. The problem with this feature is handing over the keys to the 38,000 photos on your phone, and the 4,000 selfies of YOU.
Naturally, some people think this crosses a line, saying it’s TOO invasive for any benefit that it might provide. But Tinder claims privacy is their top priority, and that only select images are uploaded, temporarily, before being deleted.
