What Could Go Wrong? Data Centers Are Being Guarded by Robot Dogs

No matter where you are in the country, you’ve probably heard about the expansion of “data centers,” which are somehow needed for A.I.

And you’re not just going to want to swing by and check a data center out, because a new report says that some are being protected by ROBOT DOGS.

That’s what they’re being called, but they’re basically just four-legged bots, roughly the size of large dogs . . . that can “patrol fences, inspect equipment, and flag any issues before they turn into costly outages.”

Robot dogs have already been deployed by first responders and the military. (But this gig is perfect for robot dogs who prefer a career that allows them to watch a lot of YouTube.)

For what it’s worth, a robot dog costs between $175,000 and $300,000.

One expert in robotics said, “We know that the cost for a human guard is around $150,000.  So, instead of having two guards at $300,000, you can have one guard and a robot.  And the robot obviously doesn’t get sick or go on vacation and things like that.”  (So, maybe let’s just make that two robots?)

Not EVERYTHING about the future is completely robotic.

Researchers at an Australian biotech startup are working on “biological data centers,” which don’t rely on chips like A.I. companies, they’re powered by many more human brain cells.

They don’t require ACTUAL humans, technically, just neurons derived from human blood stem cells.  (Which is equally terrifying.)

(Here’s a look at “Spot” . . . one robot dog.)
