I tell the best stories, and everything I say is super important. So stop interrupting me!
A guy who teaches public speaking is going viral for a tip on how to COMMAND a conversation. He says it’s something FBI agents are taught, and it can prevent people from interrupting you in the middle of a story.
The tip is to start with something called a “command pause.”
Use an opening line to grab their attention, like, “Listen to this” or “Check this out, it’s nuts.” Then, PAUSE before you launch into the actual story.
Pausing for a beat reinforces in the listener’s brain that what you’re about to say is important. So they’ll shut up for five seconds and let you talk.
