The U.S. Has Four of the Fakest Cities in the World

There’s a new report out on the FAKEST cities in the world, and believe it or not, L.A. did NOT make the cut.  (In a way, it’s authentically inauthentic.)

A new study from the travel insurance provider “InsureAndGo” looked into cities that have earned a reputation for coming off as tourist traps, rather than authentic, lived-in places.

To do it, they analyzed more than 1.3 million Google Maps reviews across 144 global cities, tracking how often travelers described experiences as “authentic,” “local,” or “traditional”, and NOT “tourist traps” or “overpriced.”

In the end, they put out a list of the 10 Least Authentic Destinations Worldwide, and FOUR of the fakest cities are in the U.S., including the overall #1.

Here’s the list:

1.  Chicago, Illinois

2.  Venice, Italy

3.  Las Vegas, Nevada

4.  Nashville, Tennessee

5.  Hobart, Australia

6.  Boston, Massachusetts

7.  London, England

8.  Singapore

9.  Sydney, Australia

10.  Brussels, Belgium.

On the other end of the spectrum, cities like Bogotá, Colombia, Lima, Peru, and Taipei, Taiwan topped the authenticity rankings. No U.S. city made the list of the 20 most authentic cities in the world.
