Here are some holiday-related random facts for you.
1. The first artificial Christmas trees in the 19th century were made from goose feathers, which were dyed green. Unfortunately, those have been phased out.
2. The record for most lights on a real Christmas tree is 194,672, which was achieved in Belgium in 2010. The most for an artificial tree is 570,546 lights, and it was set at Universal Studios Japan in 2017.
3. Tinsel was invented in 1610 in Germany. At one point in history, it was even made out of real silver, and later lead foil. On the plus-side, lead tinsel would not tarnish like silver. But on the other hand, it was kinda deadly.
4. Every year, Santa receives over 8 million letters from children all around the world. That’s a lot of Christmas wishes in his mailbox. (He also gets a lot of the usual pre-approved credit card offers, car insurance quotes, and limited-time solar panel deals, even in the North Pole.)
5. Santa’s eight tiny reindeer have had lots of names.
Rudolph was almost named Rollo, Reginald, and Romeo, and the rest of his crew also had other names including: Flossie, Glossie, Racer, Pacer, Scratcher, Feckless, Ready, Steady, and Fireball. (Which is the most badass.)
