Five Random Facts for Wednesday

Here are some random facts for you.

1.  Early 20th-century Pennsylvania Germans considered it bad luck to take a bath or change your clothing between Christmas and the New Year.

2.  Over half of ALL the master’s degrees people earn in the U.S. are in three fields:  Business (23%), education (17%), and health professions (17%).

But the largest increase over the past decade is in:  Computer and information sciences.  Those are up 145% from 2012 to 2022.  Overall, master’s degrees are up 16% in that time, and doctor’s degrees are up 20%.

3.  “Sahara” means “deserts” in Arabic, so the Sahara Desert is the “deserts desert.”

4.  There have been 21 people who’ve won the EGOT, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, but only one person who’s been nominated for all four but not won a single one.  Sorry, Lynn Redgrave.

5.  All Jews whose families are from Europe, which is almost all of the Jews you’ll meet in the U.S., are 30th cousins or closer.
