It’s crazy how fast “Black Mirror” episodes are becoming reality: Talking to DEAD PEOPLE is about to be a thing. (???)
An A.I. start-up in L.A. called 2wai (“two way”) just launched an app that lets you communicate with friends and relatives after they die. (!!!)
Obviously, that’s not possible. It’s just an A.I. version of them. But they think people will do it as long as it’s close enough to the real thing.
They made an ad where a pregnant lady FaceTimes her dead mom and tells her the baby is kicking. Then it skips ahead to the kid at 10 months old, 10 years old, and 30 years old, and he’s talking to the grandma like she’s still alive. (Here’s the video.)

They claim they can make a realistic avatar of anyone. You just have to record them talking for at least three minutes.
The reaction online is a mix of excitement and disgust. Some think it’s weird and “evil.” Others aren’t shocked, it’s just surprising how fast A.I. got here.
(A 2013 “Black Mirror” episode predicted all this: A woman makes an avatar of her dead boyfriend based on his social media, then uploads him to an A.I. robot, but eventually leaves him in the attic, like you’d do with an old photo album. The Amazon series “Upload” had a similar premise.)
