It’s been a while since Apple had a big hit like the iPod, iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. (Oh and the AirTag if you count that, I’m still trying to figure out how to best use mine.) But THIS might be it:
Apple announced a new accessory called the “iPhone Pocket,” which is part-sock, part-fashion accessory, part-utilitarian, and part-ridiculous.
It’s an iPhone-sized knitted pouch (or “pocket,” I guess), that you can sling around your shoulder, hang on your arm, or wrap around your waist.
The idea is that you can slip your iPhone inside, and carry it around safely, without needing to have a pants pocket, purse, or backpack.
When you see photos of this thing, it almost seems like it’s an April Fools’ Day joke, but it’s 100% real. They’re serious about it, and the price-tag.
There are two sizes: One with a small strap for $150 and a large strap for a whopping $230. (That’s for the official ones. In no time, you should be able to get rip-offs and variations all over, including Amazon.)
The SHORT ones will be available in these colors: Lemon, mandarin, purple, pink, peacock, sapphire, cinnamon, and black. While the LONG ones come in sapphire, cinnamon, and black.
iPhone Pockets will show up at select Apple stores and Apple.com beginning TOMORROW. (For what it’s worth, they’re suggesting that this may be a limited-time thing.)
(Here’s an online report. And another.)
