A Third of Americans Have a Side Hustle Now

Are you picking up extra work to help pay for the holidays?  Maybe selling a kidney or two?

A new poll found almost a third of Americans (31%) now have some sort of SIDE HUSTLE going.  The most common one is to sell or re-sell stuff online.

The top products we sell are handmade or custom goods, vintage or second-hand stuff, and print-on-demand products, like fun t-shirts.  (The most popular sites we sell on are Amazon, eBay, and Walmart.com.)

The #1 reason people said they have a side hustle was to help make ends meet.  73% said it’s to help pay the bills.  14% said money isn’t the main goal, it’s a “passion project.”

Just over half started their current side hustle within the past year.  Two-thirds said they spend less than 10 hours a week on it.

Last stat:  If Americans pooled all their side hustle money together, they’d earn $83 BILLION a month, or just under $1 TRILLION a year.  But individually, most side hustles bring in $500 a month or less.
