I’m going to use this tip every day for the next two months. A math professor from the University of Cambridge shared a “hack” on TikTok to cool down a hot car FAST.
Instead of blasting the A/C and waiting forever for it to cool down, try this. First, roll down your passenger side window. Then open and close your driver side door four or five times, like you’re fanning the air.
What you’re doing is forcing the hot air inside your car OUT and pulling cooler air IN. Apparently, it’s effective: One test showed it dropped the inside temp by around 20 degrees in just seconds.
This isn’t a new idea, by the way. It’s been circulating the internet since before 2016, when Thrillist.com ran an experiment to find the fastest way to cool down a hot car in the summer.
(Here’s another summer car hack: When you park in the sun, turn the steering wheel 180 degrees, so the part you hold on to is facing down. Then when you get back in your car, it won’t be scorching hot to the touch.)
