Amazon Is Training Humanoid Robots to Deliver Packages?

It’s been 12 years since Amazon first announced that they planned to use DRONES to deliver your stuff in the future.  Well, it’s the future, and that program has had a rocky rollout, and is still only available in a few select communities.

Now, Amazon is thinking FARTHER into the future.  They’re working on technology to have your packages delivered by HUMANOID ROBOTS.  (To me, they look more intimidating than “cool.”)

The humanoids would be driven around in Rivian electric vans, and would jump out to walk over and drop packages off on your doorstep.

Supposedly, this A.I. software will “soon be ready” for “real-word testing,” but judging by how long the drone thing has dragged on, don’t hold your breath.

If you’re curious, the testing will happen at an “indoor humanoid park,” which Amazon has constructed at one of their offices in San Francisco.  It’s roughly the size of a coffee shop, and has an obstacle course for the robots.

They’re also working on A.I.-powered robots to work at distribution centers, which feels a little more practical than humanoids that are out walking around, delivering packages to homes.

In fact, Amazon is already using a variety of autonomous robots in their warehouse operations.

It’s not surprising that a company like Amazon is thinking years or DECADES into the future.  And it’s not a pipe dream, a lot of the stuff they’re doing now would’ve seemed crazy even 20 years ago.

But they have a good thing going.  Humanoid robots and drones are EXPENSIVE.  It’s LESS expensive to hire gig workers to get stuff directly to customers, and it’s extra efficient when you can apparently convince them to work with minimal bathroom breaks.
