Voting Matters: A Town Ended a 140-Year Booze Ban, By a Single Vote

Have you ever voted in an election, and then wanted to exercise your right to down a large adult beverage?  Well, that’s now possible in an old-school Alabama community.

There’s a small town in northcentral Alabama called Falkville, and they just voted to end the town’s historic 140-year ban on alcohol. And it won out by A SINGLE VOTE. Cheers!

The final tally was 116 to 115 in favor of allowing alcohol sales. Plenty of residents apparently didn’t care, there are nearly 800 registered voters in Falkville, and only 231 voted.

One local gas station is THRILLED about the results, saying that they’re DEFINITELY going to be sellers, but they want to do it in a way that’s “respectful” to those who don’t want it.  So they’re going to build a huge standalone liquor store, rather than selling it in the gas station.

(Maybe they should also build it without windows, so the haters won’t see how much UNBRIDLED JOY people are feeling, shopping for booze!)  (???)
