If you’re middle-aged, you’ve probably crushed a ton of PUSH-UPS. Not the exercise, the frozen sherbet treats. An emerging food trend in New York City is push-pop, SUSHI ROLLS. (???)
There’s a place that ONLY sells them: Sushi rolls inside a thick cardboard tube that you push up to eat, like ice cream. There are several types, and they cost $16.
Does it work? Kind of, but it sounds like more of an eye-catching viral stunt than something practical, even for eating on the go.
You break off a smaller “stem” tube, which is filled with soy sauce. You remove the lids to both tubes, and pour some soy sauce inside the sushi roll tube. Then, you insert the smaller tube in the bottom of the larger one, and “push up” the sushi roll. Some people say it gets messy, while others think it’s fun.
The main place that’s selling these is called Suka Sushi, and the owner says they’re “pumping out 400 to 500 rolls a day.”
(There’s video, here. And this woman made her own.)
