The only thing more annoying than WAITING for customer service, is WORKING customer service. And it’s for the same reason: Other customers who are being annoying and wasting everyone’s time.
There’s a list of “The top things customer service workers wish you’d stop doing immediately”, and these people know what they’re talking about.
1. One customer service worker said, “No, we do not give discounts because you’ve been shopping with us for a long time.”
2. Another said, “Stop bringing your phony service animal. You’re [a jerk] if you’re still doing this.”
3. “If I tell you about a new rule the store is enforcing to stop customers taking advantage of the system, don’t yell at me, in fact, YOU probably contributed to it being made in the first place.”
4. “Refunds take time.”
5. “Don’t abandon cold or frozen items on a random shelf. Put it back where you got it from, or hand it to the cashier or another employee.”
6. “If you are rude to staff and don’t like a policy, just don’t come back.”
7. “Don’t throw money on the counter to pay. It’s disrespectful.”
8. “Don’t lick your fingers to separate bills or anything you hand to me.”
9. “Listen to my instructions and let me finish. It’ll save us both a lot of time.”
10. “Keep it short on the phone when a receptionist answers your call. Don’t go into your full life story. Say, ‘I need to speak to someone about X.'”
11. “If my arms are full carrying plates to your table, don’t ask me where the rest of it is. I’m not an octopus, sir.”
12. “Sorry. There’s nothing we can do about weather slowing your delivery.”
13. “Stop watching social media videos in the waiting room, at full volume, without headphones or earbuds.”
14. “Please stop assuming that an honest mistake, mishap, or oversight was a directed attack to spite or harm you.”
