PETA is back with another Groundhog Day idea. It’s coming up on February 2nd. They’ve been calling for a Punxsutawney Phil replacement for years.
They want the Groundhog Club to, “chuck its tired tradition of harassing a shy animal”, and replace him with a giant 3-D HOLOGRAM.
They made an A.I. mock-up where he’s 15 or 20 feet tall, with words over his head that say “6 More Weeks of Winter” or “Early Spring.” The winter version is blue, and the spring one is pink with flowers around it. They say they could make him talk too. (Here’s the photo.)
A kinder forecast is here!
PETA's bright idea for Groundhog Day would retire Phil from his life as a prop and let tradition shine without cruelty 🔆 pic.twitter.com/7MIOsl4jT0

PETA says they’ll cover the cost of the hologram projector if the Groundhog Club is willing to, “retire Phil to a reputable sanctuary with his family.”
Suggesting alternatives has become a yearly thing for PETA, but Phil’s handlers haven’t bit. (They’ve probably BEEN bit.)
They pitched a vegan-friendly “weather reveal cake” last year, and in 2024, suggested flipping a giant gold coin because it would be more accurate. Phil’s only been right about 40% of the time.
