If you want to write commercial jingles, you can get a job in marketing or an advertising agency and then work your way up, or just go viral on social media.
A woman named “Romeo”, who has the TikTok handle @RomeosShow, unloaded a brief clip last month, singing a new “theme song” for Dr Pepper.
It wasn’t an elaborate production, it was just her playfully singing, “Dr Pepper baby. It’s good and nice. Doo, doo, doo.” (Here’s the video.)
@romeosshow @Dr Pepper please get back to me with a proposition we can make thousands together. #drpepper #soda #beverage
It wasn’t totally random, though. In a caption, she said, “[I] had to act on this before someone got sent this in a dream and steals it from me, so I impulsively posted this.”
She also tagged the company and said, “Please get back to me with a proposition. We can make thousands together.”
The video attracted over 42 million views, five million likes, and over 400,000 bookmarks.
Dr Pepper saw it, and commented, “Hold on, you might be onto something.”
And they acted fast. This week, they unveiled a new commercial featuring the song. It even has Romeo’s voice, over instrumental beats that emphasize the song lyrics.
They captioned it, “A song written by @RomeosShow about the 23 flavors of Dr Pepper? It’s a Pepper thing.”
The commercial was shown during the College Football Playoff National Championship game on Monday. Romeo saw it, and celebrated on TikTok. She said, “THANK YOU GUYYYSSS. THAT WAS AWESOME. I LOVE YOU.”
(Here’s the commercial, which has more than a quarter-million views.)
