Today Is National Nothing Day – But, Can You Get Away with Doing Nothing?

Today is National Nothing Day.  It’s been a thing since 1973, after it was first proposed by a columnist.

The purpose is “to provide Americans with one National Day when they can just sit without celebrating, observing, or honoring anything.”  In other words, you are just supposed to do NOTHING AT ALL.

The day always falls on January 16th, and it’s a bonus that this year it also happens to fall on a Friday, which increases the chances that you could get away with doing nothing.

And honestly, just ONE Nothing Day isn’t enough.

According to a report from last year, Americans need 60 “lazy days” per year to feel rested and relaxed, and 21% of people plan out their lazy days in advance to make sure they’re restful enough.

Another 11% put their Nothing Days on the calendar to make sure they don’t get swallowed up by work, kids, pets, chores, or even drinking buddies.
