Now that the NFL playoffs are in full swing, football parties are about to get more involved, leading into next month’s Super Bowl. Which means it’s time to load up on SCALLIONS. (???)
Instacart reviewed their sales data from last year’s Super Bowl weekend, and released a list of the 10 most popular Super Bowl snack purchases. They are:
1. Tortilla Chips
2. Potato Chips
3. Ranch Dressing
4. Salsa
5. Canned Diced Tomatoes
6. Puff Chips
7. Scallions. (Most people are NOT nervously devouring handfuls of scallions while watching football. So this, and the tomatoes, are people making their own salsas and dips.)
8. Roma Tomatoes
9. Queso
10. French Onion Dip.
Other items that surge during Super Bowl season include: Buffalo Sauce, Frozen Chicken Wings, and Hot Sauce.
They also looked at what was popular in different areas of the country.
1. Chicken wings are uniquely popular in the Midwest, Florida, and Alaska.
2. Buffalo sauce is most popular in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
3. French onion dip is a must-have in California and Arizona.
4. Queso is most popular in the Northwest, plus Minnesota and Wisconsin.
5. Beef sausage is uniquely popular in the Midwest.
6. And “processed cheeses” are a go-to Super Bowl purchase in most of the South, including Texas, and up into Missouri, Nebraska, and Colorado.
