The Top 10 Things Kids Get Excited About During the Holidays

The holiday season sure is tough on kids:  Posing for endless photos, those itchy sweaters, being forced to “help decorate”, and the mandatory hugs from relatives they barely remember.

But I guess there are a few bright spots too, like, ya know, PRESENTS.

A website surveyed 2,000 Millennial parents with young kids, and asked them what “things kids get excited about during the holidays.” And here’s the Top 10:

1.  Gifts . . . 81% of kids get thrilled by presents.  (The other 19% might still be horrified by that episode of “Hoarders” you were watching.)

2.  Holiday lights and decorations . . . 72%

3.  Holiday foods and treats . . . 67%.  (Mainly, SUGAR.)

4.  Time off school for winter break . . . 66%

5.  Holiday entertainment . . . 62%.  (This is mostly seasonal movies, TV shows, plays, and performances, not drunk-off-her-butt Aunt Susan.)

6.  Family traditions . . . 60%

7.  Snow . . . 52%

8.  Outdoor activities . . . 51%

9.  Staying up past their typical bedtime . . . 44%

10.  Seeing extended family . . . 43%.  (I’m guessing it’s mostly same-aged children, not drunk-off-her-butt Aunt Susan.)

Back to GIFTS, the #1 answer, the average kid will ask parents about presents 51 times during the holiday season, which is about TWICE a day.

And (EARMUFFS!), the top place parents hide gifts is in closets.  In their bedroom is second, followed by in their car, in the basement, and in the garage.  (I’m surprised “in their storage unit” didn’t make the cut.)
