This sounds like someone suggesting you take a shower, using water from the GUTTERS on your roof. A new study has found that the key to fresh breath may be mouthwash, but NOT the minty stuff, or whatever the original Listerine flavor is.
It’s using GARLIC EXTRACT as a mouthwash. (???)
Researchers reviewed five studies comparing garlic extract to other oral rinses, and the garlic performed well. And, in one trial, it reduced salivary bacteria more effectively than other antiseptics.
It sounds strange, because garlic is associated with a STRONG smell, and BAD breath, but garlic also has antimicrobial properties from “allicin,” which is a compound produced when garlic is crushed.
Garlic has some disadvantages. It’s less effective against some pathogens, including one linked to gum disease. And there’s also the burning sensations and unpleasant taste, but on the plus side, it shows strong activity against multidrug-resistant bacteria. So it could serve as a natural alternative.
