It seems like every day the internet is learning something new. Sometimes it’s something people probably SHOULD know. Other times, it’s more nuanced, closer to “fun fact” territory. This is a little of both.
A woman on TikTok named “Isa” is going viral for showing how the roof of her CAR was leaking. It’s a Subaru, and it has a sun roof, and the damage was caused by an overflowing “sunroof drain,” which needed to be cleaned out.
She said, “So was someone gonna tell me that if you have a sunroof, there’s a sunroof drain? And if you don’t regularly check it, you could potentially flood the interior of your car? ‘Cause no one told me!”
A lot of people in the comments were shocked to hear about sunroof drains, and some even claimed she was LYING. She isn’t.
Sunroofs do have drains, but generally don’t require any regular maintenance. They automatically channel water away. But if you do any off-roading, drive on roads with loose dirt and gravel, or often park under trees, it’s very possible that they could get clogged.
Isa says, “I learned that where I live, it’s so densely wooded, and my drain hose just got clogged with leaves and tree sap and other debris.”
You can always have them checked out when your car is in the shop, or blow them out periodically yourself. There are even tools for it online.
(WARNING: There’s an F-bomb in the video.)
@bbell1017 Distraught is an understatement 🤧 ((EDIT PLS READ: I’ve never had a sun roof SUE ME 🥲 I now know it’s a regular thing to maintain NOW that this has happened. ✨We live and we learn my dudes✨ but the drain hose is not common knowledge. I’ll own up to a little bit of ignorance but I’m trying to do better for my car 😃👍🏼)) #subaru #sunroof #subarucrosstrek #fypシ #fml ♬ original sound – Isa💕✨
There are some amusing comments. One person joked, “You seriously didn’t know this? Wow. But, um, while we’re talking about it, how would someone check it? Asking for a friend.”
Another person joked, “Just pick up your car, and tip it a little bit. Hope this helps!”
