A lot of people in the South like to hype their “Southern Hospitality,” but it doesn’t sound like most people are thrilled to visit the South.
There’s a new report out on the 10 “friendliest states” in America, and it compiled travel data from domestic and international visitors, social media, plus equality and happiness “scores” to rate how welcoming they are.
In the end, Hawaii is #1 (not surprisingly), followed by New Jersey (a little surprisingly!).
New York is #3, followed byCalifornia, Nevada, Massachusetts, Arizona, Illinois, Utah, which called itself the “Friendly State” on license plates, and Virginia.
Unfortunately, they didn’t say how the other 40 states ranked, so there’s no word on the LEAST-FRIENDLY state.
Note: A separate analysis last year found that New Jersey is one of the RUDEST states to tourists. And New York, Massachusetts, and Nevada are also among the 10 rudest to tourists.
