Chappell Roan has released her new single “The Subway.” Listen to the track below.
On the song, which Roan previously called a cousin to her incendiary breakup hit “Casual,” she mourns a former girlfriend after coming face to face with her on the train. “I’m still counting down all of the days/ ’Til you’re just another girl on the subway,” she sings.
Roan first premiered “The Subway” at Governor’s Ball 2024. Since then, it’s remained on her touring setlist and was most recently performed during her headlining slot at Primavera Sound 2025. The Midwest Princess will release the song’s accompanying music video on Friday at 10:00 a.m. ET.
Throughout the month of August, Roan is performing at festivals across Europe and the UK. She’ll then head to New York, Kansas City, and Pasadena for a series of pop-up shows as part of her “Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things” tour. Fan registration for these shows is now closed, with fans randomly selected to purchase tickets next week. Roan has also pledged to donate $1 from every ticket sold to support the trans community.
Chappell Roan released her blockbuster debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, in 2023. Earlier this year, she dropped “The Giver” as a standalone single.
