The American Farm Bureau Federation released its annual report on the cost of an average Fourth of July cookout. And it’s actually DOWN a tad from last year, but not enough to move the needle.
The “average” backyard barbecue for 10 people will cost $70.92 this year, down 30 cents from 2024. That’s just over $7 per person.
They say inflation and lower availability for some stuff has kept prices “stubbornly high.”
If you’re just doing burgers and dogs, it might cost even less. If you’re doing ribeyes, obviously more.
The 12 items they factor in are ground beef, chicken. pork chops, buns, cheese, potato salad, pork-and-beans, potato chips, cookies, ice cream, strawberries, and lemonade.
(Maybe that’s an okay list if you’re all teetotalers. I feel like $70 is more like the average BEER BUDGET for a backyard barbecue.)
