A Study Found Letting Us Keep Our Online Returns Is a Win-Win

Have you ever tried to return something from Amazon, and they said just keep it?  It’s one of the greatest joys you can experience in life, and a new study found EVERYBODY wins.

Walmart, Target, and a lot of other companies do it now, mainly because it’s just not worth it to pay for the return shipping.

But it turns out there’s another reason they should keep doing it.  It makes us buy more stuff.

Researchers at the University of Notre Dame found that when we get to keep a return, it makes us see the brand as friendlier, more generous, and more trustworthy.

It’s something industry insiders call “brand warmth,” and it makes us more likely to shop with a brand in the future.  So, that $5 pair of socks you didn’t really want can end up making you a customer for life.

It even works when the first product you got was defective.  But if they ask you to PROVE it didn’t work, that cancels out the positive vibes.

The study found that if the product ISN’T defective, they can win you over even more if they say keeping it is the most eco-friendly solution, or suggest you donate it to Goodwill.
