So Now We’re Supposed to Attend “Grandma Showers” Too?

So would you be FOR or AGAINST showers with grandma?

There’s apparently a new trend of baby showers, for the GRANDPARENTS.  And yeah, this is IN ADDITION to all the other showers for the mom and dad.  (That’s plural, because many parents are hosting multiple, to ensure ALL their family and friends can attend one.)

Some people say “grandma showers” or “grandbaby showers” are a “heartwarming way to honor a new chapter in life.”  But others say it’s inappropriate, and even a little narcissistic.

People against them say that a grandma shower can shift the focus away from the actual parents.

A bigger issue could be that this is yet another party that friends and relatives might feel obligated to attend, WITH a gift.  And let’s be honest, some people are feeling GIFTED-OUT by all these new celebrations.

Especially since, many people treat showers as a way to help first-time parents with an onslaught of expenses.

Grandparents should be acknowledged in their new role, especially if it’s their FIRST grandchild.  But they’re usually facing less of a financial burden.

(Here’s a TikTok about the debate.)

(I’m not a grandma, but if I were, the “grandma shower” I’d like is for my friends to take me out for margaritas to celebrate me adding a title to my life résumé.  No parties, no gifts, just tequila.)  (???)
