It’s National Hamburger Day, so DoorDash looked at the most popular type of burger in all 50 states. But right off the bat, we might need to call B.S. on a technicality: Is a chicken sandwich a “burger”?
They claim “chicken burgers” are now the most popular type of burger in the U.S. (Unless you’re talking about ground chicken molded into a patty, it’s a chicken “sandwich” in my book.)
They say the rankings are based on what people ordered the most last year. And they claim “hamburgers” or “cheeseburgers” were only the most ordered type of burger in 14 states. (Hard to believe.)
That’s compared to 17 states where “chicken burgers” were #1, then “veggie burgers” with 13 states, mostly up north, and “turkey burgers” with six.
You’re not alone if you expected cheeseburgers to be #1 in all 50 states. But DoorDash says people are looking for healthier options than red meat these days.
They say chicken is also still riding a high from the viral chicken sandwich trend that caught on a few years ago.
(Here’s the DoorDash map that shows all 50 states.)
(Can we also talk about National Burger Day falling two days after Memorial Day? I just ate three burgers on Monday. Are you TRYING to explode my heart?)
(If you ARE ready for another, a bunch of burger places are running deals today, including one-cent burgers for rewards members at Wendy’s. “USA Today” and Today.com both did round-ups of the best deals.)
