Five Random Facts for Friday

Here are some random facts for you.

1.  In 150 races, there have been THREE fillies, or female horses, to win the Kentucky Derby:  Regret in 1915, Genuine Risk in 1980, and Winning Colors in 1988.  The last time a filly raced was in 2010, and no fillies will take part in tomorrow’s Derby.

2.  King Olav V of Norway competed in the Olympics, but not just because he could, because he was actually really good at SAILING.  He won a gold medal at the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam.

3.  The exclamation point didn’t become a standard key on the keyboard until 1970.  Before that, you had to type a period, and then use the backspace to go back and stick an apostrophe above it.

4.  Even though it was just a novelty song, “Because I Got High” by Afroman was nominated for the Grammy for Best Rap Solo Performance in 2002.  It lost to Missy Elliott’s “Get Ur Freak On”.

5.  Congress passed a law in 1866 that no living person could appear on currency, after an official at the U.S. Treasury snuck himself onto a five-cent bill.
