Lorde may have had a secret Instagram account where she reviewed various ONION RINGS from all around the world. A reporter from the New Zealand site Newshub has conducted an extremely thorough investigation into the Instagram account @OnionRingsWorldwide. It only had 24 followers, and they included Lorde and several of her friends.
The reporter became suspicious that Lorde was behind it, so he asked her people. They wouldn’t confirm or deny it, but the account mysteriously shut down. But this guy really dug into the story, and it sounds like he’s got her dead to rights.
He discovered that the location of the onion rings that were reviewed matched up to the places where Lorde was currently touring, for example, one ring, eaten while on a plane from Tennessee to New York, was consumed right after Lorde played at Bonnaroo.
And even though most of the posts seem to be based in the U.S., the onion ring critic spells the word ‘flavour’ with a U, just like a New Zealander like Lorde would.
Finally, there are no photos of the reviewer, but one photo shows the finger nails, which are clipped. And according to one Lorde ‘super-fan,’ she always keeps her nails super short, just like in the photo.
If you’re curious what the reviews were, here are a few of them . . .
“This was a breaded red onion ring. Bit of a heavy, dry mouth feel.” It was rated two stars out of five.
“Tempura onion ring: Very good, thick, sweet onion, and delicious chewy batter. Served with a slightly spicy, totally non-traditional sauce.” It was rated four-and-a-half stars out of five.
“Burger King: I didn’t actually know Burger King did onion rings, and good thing I didn’t because they are not good. Characteristics were a mulched onion filling with a distinct bitterness.” It was rated one star out of five.
That should actually be another “tell”: What American DOESN’T know that Burger King does onion rings???
(Check out Newshub’s full investigation, complete with screengrabs of the onion rings, here. It’s very possible that this is one of Lorde’s friends or crew members, or maybe just a funny account she somehow came across. But imagine how AMAZING it would be if she was a secret onion ring reviewer.)
