Adele now owns the record for the most weeks on the “Billboard” 200 album chart by a woman.  Her 2011 album “21” has spent 319 weeks in the Top 200.  The previous record of 318, belonged to Carole King’s “Tapestry”.

“21” has been in the Top 200 every week since it came out in March of 2011.  It’s currently at #103.  “Tapestry” charted for 302 straight weeks after it came out in 1971, but didn’t re-enter the chart until 2010.

The last time it charted was last April.  Sadly, on the ALL-TIME list of most weeks on the chart, there are no women in the Top 10.  Adele and Carole are at #11 and 12.

The top spot belongs to Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon”, with 927 weeks.  It’s followed by “Johnny Mathis’ Greatest Hits” with 490, and the original cast recording of “My Fair Lady”, with 480 weeks.  (Check out the Top 20 here.)
