PROCEDURES

Laser vision correction procedures reshape the clear tissue at the front of the eye (the cornea) by using a unique cool laser beam called the Excimer laser. The two most effective methods of delivering this laser to the cornea are called LASIK and PRK.

LASIK: The laser treatment in LASIK is delivered under a "flap". LASIK is the most popular elective procedure in the history of medicine for good reason. This procedure is quick (usually less than one minute per eye), comfortable, and extremely effective for a wide range of prescriptions. LASIK also has the quickest visual recovery of any of the laser vision correction procedures.

PRK: This "flapless" surface laser technique was the first laser vision correction procedure ever performed. It gives the best outcomes for eyes with thinner or weaker corneas and can be the best choice for some patients with specialized occupational needs. The visual recovery after PRK is not quite as rapid as LASIK, but after healing is complete, the visual results are virtually identical.

LASIK “flap-making” lasers: The recent development of lasers that can create a thinner, more precise, and completely customized LASIK flap has significantly changed the way we perform these procedures. Our “Z-LASIK” procedure is a 100% all-laser LASIK procedure that provides an even safer and more comfortable LASIK procedure to our patients. In this procedure, a laser is used to gently separate the LASIK flap from the underlying tissue rather than using the standard mechanical flap-making device. This technology provides a degree of accuracy and precision that meets or exceeds all previous “all-laser” or “bladeless” laser technologies as well as the standard mechanical flap-making device. Since a significantly thinner and more precise flap is created, more corneal tissue remains available for treatment now and in the future and the natural strength of the eye is better preserved. Since less corneal tissue is required to create the flap, more patients will qualify for the Z-LASIK procedure as compared to standard LASIK. Another valuable benefit of Z-LASIK is that patients have less dryness of the eyes after this all-laser treatment as compared to the standard mechanical LASIK. We are honored to be Nevada’s exclusive provider of the next generation all-laser Z-LASIK procedure.

Vision correction lasers: We are Nevada's first and most experienced Allegretto “flying spot” laser provider and have been the exclusive provider of this technology in Nevada for over 5 years. Dr. Rothman is honored to have been selected as a Certified Surgeon Proctor (teacher and instructor) for this technology. He has trained numerous military surgeons across the country to allow them to provide this exciting technology to our soldiers. This laser technology maximizes visual outcomes and preserves the natural curvature of the eye.
