Car Dealerships Might Ask You for Gas Money After Your Test Drive

2/21/2013

Remember when you were 16, and your broke high school buddies would ask you for a few dollars in GAS MONEY?  Well, car salesmen have just become your broke high school buddies.  According to reports, some car dealerships say they're adapting to gas prices by making some customers actually PAY FOR GAS on test drives.

Alex Mehmood runs a car dealership in West Sacramento, California. He says, "We have to pay for all the gas, and when you have 70 to 80 different cars, it gets real expensive."

So in some cases, like people who want longer test drives or multiple test drives, he actually makes them return the car with the same amount of gas in the tank.

To us this seems a little short-sighted, they're really going to sweat a guy $3 when they want to sell him a $30,000 car?  But we thought the same thing about baggage fees on airplanes, and look how THAT went.
