Five Ways You're Messing Up First Dates

1/18/2013

You're ready to jump back into the dating game, so you set up an online dating profile, and now you have a first date lined up this weekend.  Great!  Here are five tips on how to not screw it up . . .

#1.)  Revealing Too Much Personal Information.  Your goal on a first date is to present the best version of yourself.  You shouldn't LIE about anything, just maybe wait until the third or fourth date to tell them that you recently lost your job or still live with your parents.

#2.)  Making the Date Feel Like a Job Interview.  A first date IS kind of like a job interview, but it shouldn't FEEL like one.  The goal is to have a casual conversation, not an intense interrogation.

#3.)  Checking Out Other People.  You know should know better than to check out other people on a first date, but still, if you have a wandering eye, AT LEAST keep it in check for the first date.  Come on.

#4.)  Arguing.  It's okay to bring up current events during the conversation, but if your opinions on Obamacare or the Middle East don't match up, a first date isn't the place to argue about it.

#5.)  Saying You'll Call if the Date Goes Badly.  You know the date went badly, and they probably know it too, so don't say you'll call when you won't.  Tell them it was nice to meet them and then split.
