Texas Approved a Highway With the Highest Speed Limit in the Country

9/7/2012

You know what's a good idea?  People driving FASTER.  The Texas Transportation Commission just approved a plan to open a 41-mile toll road that will have the HIGHEST SPEED LIMIT in the U.S. . . . 85 miles-per-hour.  The highway will run between Austin and San Antonio.  There's no word on when the construction on the road will be done.

Right now there are highways in west Texas and Utah that have 80 mile-per-hour speed limits, but America doesn't have any roads with NO speed limit, like the autobahn in Germany.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is against this new highway.  A spokesman said, "The research is clear that when speed limits go up, fatalities go up."
