Will.I.Am Has Admitted to Being a Thief, Accidentally
WILL.I.AM has flat-out ADMITTED that his new song "Let's Go" rips off a track called "Rebound" by the electronic group ARTY & MAT ZO, but he's insinuating that he thought he had permission to use it.
In a radio interview, Will.I.Am said, "Arty is a dope producer so I wrote this song to 'Rebound' last year. I got in touch with Arty and showed it to him. [I said I] did a different version to it 'cause I asked him [to] make it newer 'cause I don't just wanna take your song and rap over it." But that's basically what happened. So what gives?
Will says, "In a year's time, we preferred writing over, and using the [original] 'Rebound'. Something happened and the clearance, It's sad that it's turned into a fiasco but hopefully it's resolved because I'm a fan of those guys."
Arty hasn't responded to this, but last week, he said that no one from Will's camp had worked out a deal to use or sample the beat, and he seemed SURPRISED to hear Will using it in the first place. He Tweeted a link to the song, with "LOL what?!"
"Let's Go" features CHRIS BROWN and appears on Will's new album, "#WillPower", which just came out yesterday. Here's "Let's Go":
And here's "Rebound", which came out in 2011:
