Aaliyah's Family Is Not Thrilled With Drake's Aaliyah Album

is working on a project featuring AALIYAH, who died in a plane crash in 2001, when she was just 22 years old.  It's an album of "13 or 14 new songs" with previously unreleased Aaliyah vocals.  He released the first single, "Enough Said", a few days ago.  Drake is featured on the track, but it's credited as "Aaliyah featuring Drake."  (You can hear the song on Drake's blog,

Well, Aaliyah's family is NOT happy with this.  In a statement on a Facebook page set up for her, Aaliyah's brother Rashad Haughton says, "There is no official album being released and supported by the Haughton family."

And a later post says, "Do you want an Aaliyah album?  If so, who should executive produce it or be featured on it?  The Haughton Family would love to hear what her FANS have to say."

In the end, it probably doesn't matter what Aaliyah's family thinks.  According to "Rolling Stone", her manager "likely owns the rights to her unreleased recordings," and he IS involved in Drake's project.  There's no release date yet.

(Yeah, Drake will make money off this project, but he's definitely passionate about Aaliyah.  He even has two tattoos dedicated to her.  He has one of her face on his back, and he just got another one on his rib cage.  It's the numbers 4-1-6, which is the area code for his hometown of Toronto, but the 4 is only partially shaded in, so it also looks like 1-1-6, which is Aaliyah's birthday, January 16th, which you can see here:

As for WHY he's so into her, he's just always been a huge fan, and he had a CRUSH on her.  In a YouTube video from last year, he says,  "She made phenomenal music and she was beautiful)

"She was a girl that I fell in love with early in my life, and I feel like, if she was still here I would probably be pursuing her in a major way . . . I was truly in love with her."  Drake was 14 when she died.

You can see a slideshow about his obsession, here, and here are photos of the tattoos, plus an earpiece he wears with her face on it.  (Daily Mail)
