Lil Wayne Is Stepping Away from Rap, To Give Us a Break from Him
LIL WAYNE has announced that he's going to step away from rap for a little while, because he thinks we're all entitled to a break from him. He says, "I feel like the fans deserve a lil' no Wayne. I've been everywhere. I've been out on everybody's song, I'm still on everybody's song, my artists are doing awesome. I believe the fans deserve some peace from me." He adds, "I be on my skateboard in the meantime."
And he's SERIOUS about that. He's actually going to spend his down time "committing" himself to skateboarding. (Which would make perfect sense if he was 14, but he turns 30 next month.)
He says, "I picked up the skateboard and I thought it'd be a hobby and what happened is it's a lifestyle. In order to be fully committed, you have to live that lifestyle. With these young kids now, you have to be about that life. It's kind of putting rap on the back burner. Rap's taken a backseat to skating."
You can find audio of Wayne's comments on YouTube. It's over 13 minutes long, but the interesting part comes eight minutes in. It's a phone interview with DJ DRAMA.
By the way, Wayne has a mixtape called "Dedication 4" coming out sometime this month. And he recently said he was finished with his next album, "I Am Not a Human Being 2". It's unclear if he plans to put that out before his break.
