Ariel Winter From "Modern Family" Was Removed From Her Home Following Allegations of Parental Abuse
14-year-old ARIEL WINTER, who plays Alex Dunphy on ABC's "Modern Family", has been removed from her home due to allegations of PARENTAL ABUSE. Ariel is now in the custody of her older sister Shanelle Gray, who herself was removed from the home 20 years ago over similar allegations.
In court papers filed last month, Shanelle claimed that her mother Crystal Workman regularly subjected Ariel to physical abuse, including slapping, hitting and pushing, and emotional abuse, which included . . . "Vile name-calling, personal insults about [Ariel and her] weight, attempts to 'sexualize' [her], deprivation of food, etc."
Ariel's mom is barred from contacting her until a follow-up hearing on the 20th of this month. In addition to custody, Shanelle also wants Ariel's paychecks to go to an account that their mom can't touch. Ariel is worth about $500,000 thanks to "Modern Family". And she says Ariel is estranged from her father, who is incapable of caring for her.
Meanwhile, Crystal is DENYING her daughter's claims. She says, "I have my doctor's letter that my daughter's never been abused . . . I have stylists' letters that she's never been abused." Ariel's brother Jimmy Workman backs up his mom. And he says their sister's claims from 20 years ago were bogus, too.
There's been a story kicking around that Ariel wanted to be legally emancipated so she could continue dating her older boyfriend, but several sources now say that's not true.
