NBC Wants Matt Lauer to Remain on the "Today" Show for "Many Years to Come"

For some reason, the entertainment media seems HELL-BENT on driving MATT LAUER off the "Today" show.  (It's like some kind of strange, pro-ANN CURRY vigilantism.)

But despite all the rumors, NBC is insisting that they're still MADLY IN LOVE with Matt.  An NBC News executive says, "As we've said before, Matt Lauer is the best in the business.   We want him in the 'Today' show anchor chair for MANY years to come.  We are NOT considering replacing Matt Lauer."

The latest rumor was that NBC was talking with ANDERSON COOPER about replacing Matt at some point.  But someone at NBC says they're ALWAYS having "exploratory talks with talent inside and outside the network, and, "to read anything specific into that is presumptuous."  Officially, it's unclear if NBC ever talked to Anderson.  (Matt signed a new contract last year to host the "Today" show through NEXT year.)
