Brooke Burke-Charvet Needs Surgery for Thyroid Cancer
"Dancing With the Stars" co-host BROOKE BURKE-CHARVET announced yesterday that she needs surgery for thyroid cancer. But it doesn't sound too serious. Doctors found a "tiny nodule" during a routine checkup, so further tests were ordered.
Brooke said, "I got my results back days later and they were atypical, which means that the doctors couldn't confirm whether the nodule was cancerous or benign. So I had to go and do a whole bunch of additional tests and get second opinions. Long story long, I got my results back and they were not good."
But she adds, "I'm going to be fine. And I feel really really strong. Doctors say this is a good kind of cancer to have. Good cancer! That sounds so crazy. But my doctor did tell me this is a happily-ever-after ending kind of thing. I'm going fight through this."
Even if she gets through it, though, she's going to have a lifelong reminder of the battle, "I'm going to have a nice big scar right here across my neck. I don't get to just walk around and pretend like nothing happened or not follow up or not share it, because it's going to be pretty much dead center."
On "The Talk" yesterday, Brooke's "Dancing With the Stars" co-host TOM BERGERON said, "She knows my love and support are with [her]. We're all right there with her." He added, "Thyroid cancer is one of the most treatable cancers. It has an incredibly high success rate."
