TOP STORY: A Shooting at a Midnight Showing of "Dark Knight Rises" Left 12 Dead and 50 Wounded
There was a major shooting at one of the "Dark Knight Rises" midnight screenings last night. A guy wearing a bullet proof vest and carrying a rifle, a handgun, and one other gun opened fire on a theater in Aurora, Colorado and killed 12 people. They say the guy made his way up the aisle, shooting as he went, saying nothing. 50 other people were wounded, including several kids.
Witnesses say the shooter kicked in an emergency exit door and threw a some kind of gas canisters into the theater before opening fire. Unfortunately, most of the victims didn't realize what was happening, because they thought the gun shots were coming from the movie. The guy was wearing a gas-mask during the attack and appeared to choose his targets randomly.
There are some reports that the victims are being treated for chemical exposure for whatever was in those canisters, and a mortician on the scene told a news crew that the device consisted of metal shards and something like pepper spray.
The gunman was allegedly a 24-year-old man named James Holmes of Aurora, CO, did NOT resist arrest, and he surrendered quietly to the police in the parking lot.
CNN has uncensored cell phone video of the chaos inside the theater. (--You can see that here.)
